Concept Workshop & Seminar
— Official Invitation Oslo, Norway

Dear team,

We’re inviting you to Oslo, Norway for a Concept Workshop and Seminar together with Wikimedia and Snøhetta.

A concept is the foundation of all visual communication in general and branding in particular. It is about finding the core of what the project is, and is therefore a process that depends on a close interaction with you. During our time together we will explore and map out the visual and sensory concept for Wikimedia – to reveal what is true about the brand and the movement.

On the day of the seminar we want to invite you to a private tour of the Oslo Opera House, designed by Snøhetta and a symbol of inclusion and democracy in the heart of the city. There will also be talks by Astrid Carlsen from Wikimedia Norge, Anna Torres from Wikimedia Argentina, Gitit Podemski from Wikimedia Israel, Kjetil Thorsen, architect and founder at Snøhetta and Kjersti Løken Stavrum, Norwegian PEN president and CEO at Tinius Trust.

We are looking forward to spend this time together with you to learn, share and co-create.

Kindest Regards,
Snøhetta

The Process

The concept is a way of compressing all information from the strategy into one coherent and holistic expression that set the foundation for all creative outtakes. We use our work process Idea Work, which has been developed in collaboration with Sintef, in all our projects. This 4 hour concept workshop is a highly inclusive and participatory process, using the strengths of people from both Wikimedia and Snøhetta.

Step 1 – Prepping

Wikimedia will present current strategy and business case. The pictogram exercise will further help participants to describe how they see the organization.

Step 2 – Zooming out

Seeing the big picture helps us create conceptual springboards that make the complex more understandable.

Step 3 – Getting physical

Groups will work in a practical, hands-on manner in the Snøhetta modelshop to physically build the concept.

Things to Consider

Weather

Oslo in January can be quite cold. The average temperature being 0°C/32°F. Please bring warm clothes suitable for walking during snow and rain. However, we will be spending most of our time inside so make sure to wear layers.

Transportation

Oslo is a great walking city. Fortunately our hotel and the Snøhetta studio are only a 15min walk apart. We will also have a vehicle on site to transport people to and from all events if anyone would prefer not to walk.

Please organize your own transportation to and from the airport. This cost can be reimbursed by the WMF.

“Homework/Preparation” = NONE!

You do not need to prepare anything for this experience. All we ask is that you come with enthusiasm and an open mind.
